Furnishing a home becomes difficult when the budget lives in one note, product links live in open tabs, room dimensions sit in messages, and the move-in date is only in your head. This planner puts those decisions into one working record. You set the total budget and target date, divide the money by room, and then let each room tab carry the items, quantities, costs, links, dimensions, supplier details, and status.
Before you start
Open the free Google Sheet, then make your own working copy with File → Make a copy. Rename it for the property or project before entering real information.
The workbook has three core tabs and a set of room tabs:
| Tab | What it controls | Edit it? |
|---|---|---|
| Master Planner | Total budget, move-in date, room allocations, planned spend, and milestones | Yes |
| Instructions & Config | Quick-start notes plus the currency, priority, and status lists | Usually no |
| All Items (Auto) | One combined view of included items from every included room | No |
| Room tabs | Product details, quantities, prices, measurements, links, and suppliers | Yes |

Set your project foundations
Start on Master Planner. Complete the project name and property field, select the currency label, then set the two inputs that drive the rest of the plan:
- Enter the total amount available for furniture, logistics, services, and contingency in the blue Total Budget cell.
- Double-click the purple Target Move-in Date cell and select your date.
The summary cards show planned spending and remaining budget. The countdown compares today with your target move-in date. These numbers are useful only when the item prices in the room tabs are kept current, so treat the planner as a living estimate rather than a one-time setup exercise.

Split the budget by room
The room table turns one large budget into smaller decisions. Each included row represents a room or service tab. Allocation % is the share of the total budget assigned to that part of the project; Calculated Budget converts the percentage into money.
The status banner above the table tells you whether the included allocations total exactly 100%, leave money unallocated, or exceed the total. Adjust the percentages until the plan reflects your priorities and the banner shows a complete allocation.
Use the remaining columns as a health check:
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Planned Cost | Total of included priced items inside that room tab |
| Remaining | Calculated room budget minus planned cost |
| Used % | How much of that room budget has been planned |
| Items | Number of described entries in the room tab |
| Sheet Link | Shortcut into the room tab |
| Notes / Scope | A short boundary such as “sofa + rug only” or “includes installation” |
Do not force every room to be equal. Give more money to the rooms with expensive anchor pieces or heavy daily use, and protect a real contingency instead of hoping the final purchases land exactly on budget.

Build each room list
Open a room through its Open Sheet link. The summary at the top shows that room’s allocated budget, current planned cost, remaining amount, and budget used. Below it is the item table.
Each row can hold the information that usually gets scattered across screenshots and messages:
| Field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Priority | Essential, Recommended, or Optional |
| Item Status | Researching, Need Quote, Quoted, Approved, Ordered, Shipped, Delivered, or Rejected |
| Product / Quote URL | The product page, supplier listing, or quotation link |
| Notes | Finish, fabric, options, assumptions, or open questions |
| Image / Invoice URL | A direct image file or invoice reference URL |
| Qty + Unit Price | The inputs used to calculate total price |
| Dimensions / Scope | A readable size or service scope |
| Width / Depth / Height | Comparable measurements kept in separate columns |
| Supplier / Vendor | Who quoted or supplies the item |
| SKU / Contract # | The reference needed to find the exact item again |
To add a new entry, tick the checkbox beside Click box to Add New Furniture Entry at the top of the room tab. The script inserts a pre-wired row and places the cursor in the description cell. Enter a quantity and unit price; the row total, room planned cost, and Master Planner total update from there.
For an image preview, paste a direct image URL into Image / Invoice URL. A normal product-page URL belongs in Product / Quote URL and may not render as an image. Some websites also block images from being embedded, so a blank preview does not necessarily mean the URL is wrong.

Use Include as a decision switch
The Include checkbox is not the same as “purchased.” It decides whether a room or item counts in the active plan.
- Uncheck an item to keep it as a backup while removing its price from the room total and its row from All Items (Auto).
- Re-check it when the option returns to the active shortlist.
- Uncheck a room on Master Planner to remove that room’s budget and planned costs from the project totals.
This makes the sheet useful during comparison. You can preserve rejected or alternate options without letting them distort the working budget.
Review All Items (Auto)
Use All Items (Auto) when you want one cross-room shopping and delivery view. It combines included items from included rooms and adds the room name in the first column.
This is the useful place to scan for:
- essential items that still need a quote;
- approved items with missing supplier or SKU details;
- ordered pieces without dimensions;
- deliveries that need to be grouped by supplier, status, or room;
- room budgets that look healthy only because important items have not been priced.
Do not type into this tab. Make corrections in the relevant room tab, then return to the combined view.

Plan backward from move-in
The timeline contains six default milestones: space planning and specifications, quoting and vendor selection, order placement and production, logistics, delivery day, and post-move-in styling.
Set the target date for each stage. Days Before Move-in tells you how far that milestone sits from the move-in date, and the checkbox records completion.
The default dates are a starting structure, not supplier promises. Replace them with dates based on confirmed production lead times, sample approval, inspection, packing, consolidation, freight, customs, final-mile access, and installation. When the move-in date changes, review the stage dates rather than assuming every deadline should move by the same amount.

Add, duplicate, or remove rooms
Use the custom VeriFurn Planner menu in Google Sheets when the default rooms do not match the home.
- Choose Add Room / Service Tab to create a new pre-wired tab by name.
- Duplicate an existing room tab when you want its structure as a starting point, then rename it.
- Delete a room tab when it is genuinely outside the project.
- After duplicating, renaming, deleting, or manually reordering room tabs, choose Sync Master Planner.
Sync rebuilds the room rows and the combined item formula while preserving saved include states, allocations, and scope notes for room names it recognizes. A newly discovered room receives a default 5% allocation, so rebalance the percentages after adding one.
The five-step weekly routine
Once the sheet is set up, you do not need to maintain every tab every day. Use this short review:
- Check the project total. Confirm that planned spending and remaining budget still match reality.
- Review exceptions. Find rooms over budget and essential items still marked Researching or Need Quote.
- Update active items. Add current quantities, prices, status, supplier details, and dimensions.
- Review the timeline. Move dates when a supplier, sample, shipment, or delivery dependency changes.
- Sync after structural changes. Use Sync whenever room tabs were added, copied, renamed, or removed.
That is enough to keep the planner decision-ready without turning spreadsheet maintenance into another project.
Common mistakes to avoid
| Mistake | Better habit |
|---|---|
| Treating the total budget as furniture only | Include logistics, services, installation, and contingency when they share the same budget |
| Typing into All Items (Auto) | Edit the source room tab |
| Using Include as a delivered checkbox | Use Item Status for progress; use Include for active versus backup options |
| Pasting a product page into the image field | Put the page in Product / Quote URL and use a direct image URL for Preview |
| Adding or renaming tabs without syncing | Run VeriFurn Planner → Sync Master Planner |
| Trusting default milestone dates | Replace them with confirmed supplier, shipping, and delivery dates |
| Recording only overall dimensions | Keep width, depth, and height separately so products can be compared and checked |
